Description
The Gibson Custom Shop Angus Young SG V.O.S. is one of the most captivating signature models dedicated to the legendary AC/DC guitarist, produced in an extremely limited run in 2009. This instrument is part of a run of just 200 instruments with a V.O.S. finish, joined at the time by just 50 additional Aged & Signed models.
The project stems from Gibson’s desire to recreate the character of the SG that accompanied Angus Young for much of his career, an instrument that Angus himself has repeatedly described as unlike any other SG he’s owned. A guitar capable of becoming an integral part not only of his sound, but of the AC/DC imagery itself.
Built by the Gibson Custom Shop, this SG features a mahogany body with an Angus Cherry nitrocellulose finish and V.O.S. treatment, designed to recreate the look and feel of an instrument that has already naturally matured over time. The ultra-thin maple neck echoes the distinctive profile of Angus Young’s original SG, while the ebony fingerboard is embellished with the unmistakable Lightning Bolt inlays, which have become a hallmark of his guitars.
The electronics are handled by a pair of Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates, developed to Angus Young’s specifications, with a dynamic, open, and defined response that emphasizes attack, clarity, and that distinctive mid-to-high end punch essential for achieving classic AC/DC crunch without resorting to overly powerful pickups. The instrument is completed by the ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles, stopbar, and chrome hardware.
More than just an Artist Model, this Angus Young SG V.O.S. represents the Gibson Custom Shop’s attempt to capture the character of one of the most recognizable SGs in rock history. The original certificate identifies AY106 as one of only 200 V.O.S. models produced, making it a particularly interesting Gibson Custom Shop model, even from a collectible perspective.
An SG built around the sound, feel, and aesthetic of Angus Young: essential, immediate, and deeply rooted in over fifty years of rock history. A rare example of a Gibson Custom Shop collectible, available in Italy and Europe through Guitar Sauce.
