This original 1954 Gibson ES-5 is a remarkable example of Gibson’s golden-era hollow-body craftsmanship. Elegant and sophisticated in appearance, yet incredibly versatile thanks to its three P-90 pickups, the ES-5 can move effortlessly from warm, rounded jazz tones to more articulate blues and roots sounds with unmistakable vintage character.
Its fully hollow body features a laminated maple top with beautifully figured maple back and sides, finished in traditional nitrocellulose lacquer. The mahogany neck has a comfortable Rounded C profile and is paired with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard featuring a 12″ radius, 20 vintage-style small frets and a bone nut. Gibson’s traditional 24.75″ scale length completes a construction deeply rooted in the company’s classic 1950s specifications.
Three P-90 Soapbar pickups give this ES-5 its unmistakable voice and exceptional tonal range. The individual pickup volume controls and master tone allow the player to shape the instrument with remarkable subtlety, moving from the deep warmth of the neck position to increasingly focused and articulate sounds from the middle and bridge pickups. Combined with the natural resonance of the fully hollow body, the result is an open, rich and highly responsive instrument.
Gold hardware, Kluson Deluxe tuners and a Tune-o-matic ABR-1 bridge mounted on a Brazilian rosewood base, together with the traditional trapeze tailpiece, complete its unmistakable 1950s aesthetic.
