Gibson Les Paul Custom Black 1969 Original Vintage. One of the most sought-after Les Paul Customs among collectors, it belongs to the extremely rare 1968-1969 production run, the first two years of the model’s reintroduction. These instruments are particularly coveted because they retain unique features such as the absence of the scroll on the back of the headstock and the “Made in USA” wording, details that distinguish them from later production runs.
This guitar is completely original, with 1969-dated potentiometers and an original finish. It has been professionally re-fretted, perfectly preserving the original fretboard binding, a crucial step in maintaining the instrument’s value. The neck is full and generous, with a feel reminiscent of the best Les Pauls of the 1950s, while the sound is simply extraordinary: rich, open, dynamic, and with all the personality expected from a great Black Beauty from the late 1960s.
From the photographs, it’s clear that, many years ago, a previous owner likely replaced the nut, slightly widening its seat. This repair was subsequently restored, now over fifteen years ago, with a very high-quality finish. Only a slight visible mark remains near the first fret, on the binding and the ebony fingerboard, along with a small localized touch-up near the truss rod cover. This is in no way a structural repair or the result of a breakage.
To eliminate any doubt about the instrument’s integrity, the guitar comes with a CD containing complete x-rays, which clearly demonstrate that it has never suffered any breakages or structural repairs. This has also been confirmed by one of Italy’s most respected luthiers specializing in vintage instruments.
The instrument is perfectly intact, the truss rod works properly, the varnish is original, and it comes with its original case.
