Description
This 1955 Gibson Les Paul Junior Sunburst represents one of the purest and most fascinating expressions of Gibson’s golden-era production. Originally conceived as a straightforward professional instrument without unnecessary appointments, the Junior would eventually become an icon in its own right, loved for its immediate response, unmistakable character and beautifully simple construction.
The solid mahogany body is finished in nitrocellulose lacquer and paired with a mahogany neck featuring a substantial 50s Chunky profile. The Brazilian rosewood fingerboard has a 12″ radius and 22 frets, and the guitar has been refretted, making it a vintage instrument that remains perfectly suited to serious playing rather than simply being admired as a collector’s piece. A nylon nut and traditional 24.75″ Gibson scale complete its classic construction.
At the heart of the guitar is a single P-90 Dog-Ear bridge pickup, controlled by nothing more than one volume and one tone knob. It is a deceptively simple layout capable of producing an enormous range of expression, from clear and articulate tones to raw, aggressive crunch simply through touch and use of the guitar’s controls.
A wraparound bridge, Kluson tuners and single-ply black pickguard complete the unmistakable 1950s aesthetic, beautifully complemented by its Sunburst finish. Weighing approximately 3.2 kg, this original 1955 Les Paul Junior combines more than seventy years of Gibson history with the immediacy and musical personality that made the model legendary.
