Description
The 2023 Gibson Custom SJ-200 Deluxe Rosewood is one of the most prestigious interpretations of the legendary “King of the Flat-Tops”—a Super Jumbo that combines commanding stage presence, exquisite craftsmanship, and a broad, authoritative voice. The Rosewood Burst finish highlights the SJ-200’s iconic silhouette and creates a stunning contrast with the numerous decorative details that distinguish this Deluxe version.
Its large Super Jumbo body pairs a Sitka spruce top with rosewood back and sides—a combination that delivers powerful projection, deep and defined lows, and a rich, harmonic-laden high end. Scalloped X-bracing enhances the instrument’s dynamic response, allowing the soundboard to vibrate freely while maintaining excellent balance, even when played with greater intensity. The result is an instrument with a full, three-dimensional sound, capable of delivering a commanding presence while also capturing the nuances and details of a delicate playing style. The mahogany neck, featuring a “Rounded” profile, is paired with an ebony fingerboard boasting a 12″ radius and 20 frets. Elaborate mother-of-pearl Crown inlays, fingerboard binding, and extensive ornamentation immediately highlight the instrument’s exclusive character. The iconic ebony “Moustache” bridge—complete with mother-of-pearl inserts—and the large, decorated pickguard are essential elements of the SJ-200 identity, while gold Grover Rotomatic tuners round out an elegant, instantly recognizable aesthetic.
The rosewood back is particularly striking, enhanced by a decorative center strip—a detail that makes this Deluxe model even more refined than the classic SJ-200. The richness of the wood, the binding, and the finish ensure that every angle of the instrument is as visually captivating as it is sonically rewarding.
LR Baggs VTC electronics allow for natural-sounding stage performances that faithfully preserve the instrument’s acoustic character, featuring controls discreetly mounted inside the soundhole.
The SJ-200 Deluxe Rosewood is a guitar that commands attention: imposing in size, refined in detail, and possessing the deep, enveloping voice that has made Gibson’s large Jumbo models an absolute benchmark. It is an instrument designed for those seeking not just a great acoustic guitar, but a Gibson that serves as a musical instrument, a collector’s item, and a true style statement all in one.
