The James Tyler Guitars USA 250 Studio Elite HDX Stars and Stripes Shmear 2026 is one of only 25 guitars created to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, and this model is numbered #18 of 25. This Limited Edition takes one of James Tyler’s most recognizable elements to the extreme: the famous Shmear finish, reinterpreted here in the colors of the American flag with a spectacular Stars and Stripes Shmear semi-gloss.
The alder body with rear-routed construction leaves the front completely free, allowing the finish to take center stage. The quartersawn maple neck features an ST64 profile and is paired with an Indian rosewood fingerboard with White Mother of Pearl inlays and Wide/Tall frets. Even the headstock becomes an integral part of the project thanks to the Faux Matching White Shmear finish and the Limited Signature Logo with the “BIABA” lettering and “250” reference on the back, details created specifically for this commemorative series.
The HSS configuration pairs two JTS5500s in the neck and middle positions with a tilted Super Humbucker in the bridge position. However, it’s in the electronics that the Tyler philosophy truly shines through: in addition to the 5-way selector switch, there’s a Midboost Preamp, Preamp Bypass, a Series/Parallel function for the bridge pickup, and the Add Neck & Bridge control, which allows for combinations not normally available with the selector switch alone. The result is an instrument capable of shifting between open and dynamic single-coil sounds, fuller tones, and a wealth of nuance that makes the Studio Elite HDX extremely versatile both on stage and in the studio.
