Description
The Modern Eagle model was introduced between 2004 and 2005 to celebrate PRS’s 20th Anniversary. It embodies the very best of the company’s luthiery, blending vintage character with modern innovation, and can be considered the flagship model of the brand.
The Modern Eagle I was produced from 2004 to 2007. This particular example comes from the very first year of production, as indicated by the first digit of the serial number (4). It was clearly built in 2004 and left the PRS factory in Maryland, USA in 2005, as confirmed by the hang tag stating that year. The most distinctive feature of this prestigious series is the Full Brazilian Rosewood neck, which imparts a uniquely warm and vintage tonal character. The neck has a 25” scale length, Wide Fat profile, 22 frets, 10” radius, Bird inlays, and a headstock also crafted from Brazilian Rosewood with an inlaid eagle.
The Double Cutaway body is made from a single piece of Honduras mahogany with a carved top of highly figured 5A maple of Private Stock quality.
It is equipped with original RP humbuckers with satin covers, where RP stands for Ralph Perucci, the PRS designer responsible for the pickups on the first Modern Eagle I guitars.
This example comes in the stunning Old Natural finish (the most sought-after option) with a satin coat. It features a 3-way selector and push/pull tone control for coil-splitting, along with a tremolo bridge—making it the more desirable version compared to the fixed Stoptail bridge model. The original suede-covered hardshell case is included, featuring a gold Modern Eagle plaque and a stitched eagle on the red velvet interior. Hang tags and provenance booklet are also present. The guitar is in excellent overall condition, with only minor signs of use. A truly rare and collectible instrument—don’t miss the chance to own it.
The PRS Modern Eagle I, launched in 2004, stands as one of the brand’s most iconic and sought-after series. This example belongs to the very first run and is distinguished by its exceptional tonewoods and top-tier craftsmanship.
The mahogany body with a flamed maple top features the stunning Old Natural finish, which beautifully enhances the natural figuring of the wood. The fully Brazilian Rosewood neck, with a Brazilian fingerboard as well, is one of the rarest and most coveted aspects of this series: it delivers a warm, rich, and articulate tonal response, combined with an extraordinarily smooth and velvety feel.
