Description
The 2018 PRS Silver Sky in Frost White represents the first chapter in one of the most important collaborations in the recent history of the electric guitar. After years of development alongside John Mayer, PRS succeeded in creating an instrument capable of reinterpreting the concept of the great American S-style guitar, without simply copying its predecessor. The result was an entirely new guitar, designed to offer the feel and character of the finest vintage instruments with the precision construction that has made PRS famous worldwide.
From its introduction, the Silver Sky divided enthusiasts with its headstock design, but it quickly won over professional musicians and collectors with its extraordinary sonic qualities. John Mayer wanted an instrument that retained all the charm of the finest guitars of the 1960s while eliminating their construction compromises. PRS’s response was an incredibly resonant, dynamic, and versatile guitar, today considered one of the American company’s finest.
This 2018 example, finished in elegant Frost White, hails from the early production years of the Silver Sky and features an alder body and nitrocellulose finish. The maple neck with a 635JM profile, developed specifically for John Mayer, offers an instantly familiar feel, while the rosewood fingerboard with a 7.25″ radius and 22 Vintage Medium frets provides a decidedly vintage-style playing experience.
The electronics consist of three PRS 635JM single-coil pickups, designed to offer a perfect balance of brightness, warmth, and dynamics. The configuration with a five-way switch, two tone controls, and one volume allows for a wide range of tones, from crystal-clear cleans to harmonic-rich crunch, while maintaining an extremely musical and touch-sensitive response.
The equipment also includes a PRS steel tremolo, PRS Vintage Locking tuners, a bone nut, and the original gig bag with a certificate of authenticity. Weighing just 3.290 kg, this Silver Sky offers excellent comfort and is the ideal choice for those seeking one of the instruments that redefined the modern concept of the S-style guitar, combining tradition, innovation and the unmistakable musical vision of John Mayer.
